Ken
produced covers for the Penguin reprints of novels by CS Forester and John
Buchan, for which his model was frequently an old friend who had served with the Royal
Artillery in Burma and later became a bank manager in the Sahara. The
exception was The Thirty-Nine Steps, which had a photograph of Robert
Powell, who played Richard Hannay in the film and subsequent televison
series.
